What We’ll Explore

Getting Selfish is built around one idea and four questions.

The Idea

Selfish means belonging to oneself. It’s time to reclaim it, because it’s the healthiest thing to be.

The Questions

How do I want to feel?

This is our version of goalsetting. Instead of focusing on what we want to do (just yet, anyway), we’re focusing on how we want to feel. In other words, we’re going to start by defining our own unique joy.

How do I feel that way?

This is about what matters most to you: your values. They’re a map to your joy, and they’re also a guidebook for how you want your own resources to be used (and not used).

What don’t I want?

From this clarity, you’ll identify the things you need less (or none) of, which will clear some space in your head, heart and life for things that feel more aligned to you. We’ll build skill around boundaries and saying “no” with clarity and kindness, to help you clear that space.

What do I want?

After clearing space, you’ll see more vividly the things that do feel aligned to you. We’ll build skill around saying what you want and need, and creating the conditions for those things to thrive in your life.

What you’ll experience

Here’s your timeline for Getting Selfish: Building a Healthy Self-Advocacy Practice.

  1. You’ll receive your Workshop Companion book and welcome package by mail.

  2. You’ll get a link to do a little “pre-session riff”—think journaling, dialed up a few degrees. This will help you get into the mindset so we can make the most of our first live session.

  3. You’ll come to Session 1. It’ll be 2 hours, and you’ll be with the rest of your cohort exploring your visions for your future, your core values, and more important foundations for your self-advocacy practice.

  4. You’ll get a link to do your between-session work, which will help you keep connecting the dots, refine your core values, and meet some new self-advocacy skills.

  5. You’ll come to Session 2, a week after Session 1. You and your cohort will share your reflections and the work you’ve done, then build skills in expressing your needs, establishing boundaries, and backing yourself up with your behavior.

  6. You’ll get a link to do your post-session riff, where you’ll reflect, plan, and of course, send me your feedback!

  7. (Optional, but highly encouraged!) You’ll do a 1:1 coaching session with me, anytime in the three months following your second group session. We’ll continue to build on your progress, work through your challenges, and come up with your best-fit self-advocacy strategy!

Here’s what people said about the last one.

Katie Wefler, MSHRM

“Attending the session was really positive for me; I realized that I am not alone with the struggle of advocating for myself. Nora provided real tools that can actually work in a personal and professional capacity. I also learned that being ‘selfish’ can actually be a good thing! There has always been a negative connotation to that word, but I left the session feeling totally different about it. I will continue working with Nora and can't recommend her enough!”

Kye Hawkins, Leadership Consultant

“The Getting Selfish workshop was everything good development should be: engaging, thought-provoking, fun, and full of other humans who are interested in reflecting on themselves and their behaviors in an effort to improve. Nora is incredibly good at facilitating this content; everyone walked away with tangible next steps and strategies they can use at work and outside of work!”
